Football Report for Saturday 4th November 2011

Lochmaben cruised into the next round of the South of Scotland Cup on Saturday with a strong second-half performance which saw them beat Hawick Legion by five goals to two.

It was 1-1 at the break after a fairly even first period but Lochmaben got right on top in the second half. Their opener in twenty minutes was curled in by Stevie Hislop only for Hawick to equalise on thirty five. The second half was a different story. Two very similar goals by Shane Watson soon had Lochmaben in command, each time running on to through balls, the first from Gavin Smith, the second from Keith Houston, and slotting home. When a corner wasn’t cleared Dougie McRobert tapped in number four. Although Hawick did pull one back, good work by Gavin Smith and Stevie Hislop set up Shane to complete his hat-trick and round off a good win.

In the next round, Lochmaben entertain Pencaitland.

Leaders Lochar Thistle continued on their winning way with a 6-1 victory over Maxwelltown Thistle. In the end, the victory was comfortable and well-deserved but the first half was very even with the interval score 1-1 and that after Max hit the bar just before half time. A lightning start saw Lochar ahead after twenty seconds through a John Howie header at the back post. In twenty minutes, Terry Trainor crossed for Darren Kirkpatrick to head in the equaliser from six yards. Craig Broadfoot then rattled Lochar’s bar. However, two quick goals right at the start of the second half killed the game. Mike McGauchie drilled home a hard low shot and then Craig Muir ran on to a long through ball and banged it home from the edge of the area. A defensive mix-up on the hour allowed Mike in for his second, an own goal followed and Craig got his second when the Max defence failed to clear.

Upper Annandale’s good form continued with a 7-0 win over Dynamo Star at Moffat. The seven goals were shared between Neil Roddick who had four and Kevin Jack the other three. Neil scored the first two. For the first he was played in by Michael Swan and for the second, he played a lovely 1-2 with Richard Swan before finishing with a fierce drive. Kevin then headed in a free kick to give Uppers a 3-0 interval lead. Neil’s next was similar to his first, Kevin bulleted home a twenty yard shot for the fifth, Neil fired in his fourth and Kevin finished things off with a twenty yard free Kick. For the last twenty minutes, Star came into the game but without anything to show for their efforts. Their keeper, Grant Ireland, was blameless in goal while Gary Archibald and Duncan Clow also played well. For Uppers, the two scorers and Richard and Michal Swan were best.
